This is my second year riding Bellringer to support the important cancer research of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Cancer has impacted the lives of so many of the people important to me: my family members and relatives, as well as friends and co-workers. Since last year, one of my colleagues and fund-raising teammates was diagnosed with an advanced stage cancer, so when Bellringer asked if I would ride again this year, I answered with an emphatic, “Yes!” I’m riding to support my strong, resilient, and tenacious (not to mention talented and fun) colleague. Let’s work together to try to find cures for these terrible diseases. I invite you to join me by donating to my effort and supporting life-saving cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
I’ve been an avid cyclist for almost 50 years, first competing as a junior racer. I’ve raced on the road, on grass and mud cyclocross courses, and on mountain bikes. I’ve toured by bike in Europe and Canada and have always loved the sense of freedom and potential for endless exploration that cycling provides.
It wasn’t until the folks at Georgetown University Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center reached out to Perkins&Will last year about forming a team to ride in their second annual Bellringer fundraiser for cancer research that I really reflected on the full impact that cancer has had on my life and those around me. Two of my colleagues signed up immediately because they were survivors who had been treated by the Lombardi Center. I recognized that the ride is a great way to combine my love of cycling with giving back to the community and especially to the goal of finding cures to cancer. Please join the Bellringer ride or donate to my rider page or team page. 100% of the donations will go to cancer research.
Thank you.
P.S. - I'd like to especially thank my bike racing teammates at DC Velo for their generous donations to my Bellringer ride last year and for their camaraderie and support over the last 31 years.
