I miss my cousin Marybeth (my Uncle Butch and Aunt Mary's daughter). She was always kind to me and most anyone she met especially those with special needs. She was a great listener and wise beyond her years. She had a beautiful singing voice and a contagious laugh. I loved playing hide and seek with her as a kid. We cried laughing at the silliest things. She passed away from cancer way too young.
Two years ago I participated in this ride. I wanted to go 50 miles but was in a wait and see after 25 miles mode. I found out after 10-15 miles I was not in shape and couldn't wait to get to 25 and call it a day. It's very hilly and my 40 year old Motobecane 10 speed was not up to the task. Unbelievably my 80+ year old uncle Butch went on to complete the 50 miles along with the rest of team Marybeth. I'm going to try it again this year but this time I changed out the rear cassette to a better hill climbing ratio and I have been training much more.
BellRinger is a bike ride and a year-round effort to end cancer. Our movement is motivated by a community of Riders, Virtual Riders, volunteers, and donors working together to further our impact. I've made a commitment to fundraising, and I invite you to join me by donating to my effort and supporting life-saving cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center so people like my cousin Marybeth can live on to a ripe old age.
