Let's gear up for the fifth annual BellRinger Weekend this Oct. 23-24! Since launching in 2022, BellRinger has raised over $6.6 million for cancer research at Georgetown University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. BellRinger funding fuels research in areas including metastatic colon cancer, glioblastoma, and cancer cell biology, which focuses on how cancer originates and will dramatically change how we think about cutting-edge immunotherapy and other novel treatments for cancer.
Like it is for many people, cancer is personal. My Nana died of a rare gallbladder cancer. My aunt died of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Another aunt is a non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor. My cousin is a Hodgkin's Lymphoma survivor. Two of my grandparents have cancer - one with a rare form of lymphoma called Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, and the other with lung cancer. On both sides of my family, cancer is a common dinner table conversation, and a fear that we share.
As the only Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute in the Washington, DC area, Georgetown Lombardi is rooted in Georgetown University’s Jesuit values and focus on care for the whole person.
In October, along with over 1,200 others, I will ride 100 miles to end cancer. I hope you will consider supporting these efforts at Lombardi by donating to my ride.
With gratitude,
Jonathan Thomas
