I am inviting you to join me on a bike ride on October 26, 2024 to support life-saving cancer research at the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. As the team leader of the Ministery of Movement, I am committed to raising $5,000 to support prostate cancer disparity research in order to ensure that everybody, everywhere and at all time have access to the highest quality of health care as a human right.
Prostate cancer (PCA) is the most common cancer among men and everyone will have a loved one, a family member, a relative or a friend affected by this disease. Men of African descent have 1.4 higher risk of being diagnosed with PCA and 2-3 times higher risk of dying of PCA than white men in the US. The causes of these disparities have been mostly attributed to systematic differences in social conditions and processes that determine health and these differences are "avoidable, unnecessary and unjust". The way to address these disparities is through well-conducted clinical research. However, for complex historical reasons, minority populations have been poorly represented in clinical trials. As a member of the black community and a health care provider, I witness first-hand prostate cancer health disparities.
At the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, we want to promote health equity and design clinical trials to address health disparities. We believe that everyone, everywhere and at all time should benefit from preventative measures and life-saving interventions to maintain their health and reduce suffering from cancer. Achieving these objectives requires your participation. Please join me for a good time along the bike ride or consider a donation to support this initiative.
I truly appreciate your support.
