Sierra Lilac's story

BellRinger is a bike ride and a year-round effort to end cancer. Our movement is motivated by a community of Riders, Virtual Riders, volunteers, and donors working together to further our impact. I've made a commitment to fundraising, and I invite you to join me by donating to my effort and supporting life-saving cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
So much has changed in the 12 years since I finished my last chemotherapy treatment for leukemia, but being a survivor will always be part of my identity. Although you might never know this by looking at me, I still am met with anxiety with every routine blood test, echocardiogram, or scan, worrying that my body will betray me once again.
However, I am also always grateful for what my body CAN do and that's why I've decided to challenge it this year by registering for the inaugural Bellringer bike ride. I've committed to riding 25 miles on October 21 to support cancer research at Georgetown's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, where I am a patient in their survivorship clinic. I'm not only riding to prove to myself that my body is capable but also in honor and in memory of so many loved ones who have also been affected by cancer.
If you have the means and feel compelled to do so, please consider donating in support of my ride. Any amount, large or small, will help me towards my goal (and give me the boost of confidence to push me through some humid DC summer training rides ahead). Thank you all for your support!
