Wade Kothmann's story

Like nearly everyone I know, my family has felt the impact of cancer. We have been fortunate that in many instances, the cancer was caught early enough for effective treatment. My mother, Sheila, is one of the survivors, having undergone successful treatment for melanoma (like my grandparents did before her).

Unfortunately, not all types of cancer have effective treatments. In 2012 my father, Don, was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive brain cancer with very limited treatment options. In March 2013 at the age of 60, less than a year after diagnosis, he passed away as a result of the cancer. I am riding in BellRinger for the first time this year, and I do so in memory of my father. I do so in the hope that the ongoing efforts of cancer researchers supported by this ride will lead to innovative treatments for all types of cancer.

BellRinger is a bike ride and a year-round effort to end cancer. Our movement is motivated by a community of Riders, Virtual Riders, volunteers, and donors working together to further our impact. I've made a commitment to fundraising, and I invite you to join me by donating to my effort and supporting life-saving cancer research at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
