Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC's story

The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) is proud and excited to participate in BellRinger 2025. GMCW has been raising their voices not only in song, but also to empower their community to make a difference. As one of BellRinger’s largest teams and for the third straight year, Team GMCW is gearing up to take on the Ride this Fall united in the fight against cancer.

Led by Artistic Director Thea Kano, GMCW is now in its 44th season. We sing to inspire equality and inclusion with musical performances and education promoting justice and dignity for all. GMCW has more than 300 singing members, three select ensembles, a dance company, a youth chorus, 50 support volunteers, more than 300 subscribers, 500 donors, and an annual audience of more than 10,000 people. The Chorus and its ensembles keep a very busy schedule with more than 100 outreach performances each season.

Our core values reflect deeply held principles shared by our members, staff, and Board of Directors that showcase our Passion for artistic excellence; our Respect for all who proudly sing for equality and justice; our commitment to have a positive Impact on the intersectional communities we represent; our Diversity focused organizational endeavors; and our Empathy for those we sing for and cherish.
