At 16, Emmett went from having the flu to being hospitalized the night that Los Angeles was in a citywide panic due to multiple fires. Diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia/ Type B (ALL-B), instead of basketball practice, he found himself in an alternate reality of lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies and chemo treatments that started immediately. He’s 9 months into a 2.5 year journey to ringing the bell, and he knows that he’s one of the lucky ones. Thanks to countless people of science he’ll never know, his prognosis is positive because of a worldwide research consortium that has developed a successful treatment protocol-and an incredible team of oncologists at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in LA. But there are so many kids and teens being diagnosed every day with blood cancers. Everyone needs a team and the belief that they will come out on the other side. Team E, led by one of his sisters, rides for the hope of ringing the bell forever on cancer.
